WHAT IS TAIZé?

Taizé is a monastic community located in France.  The prayer service was begun here in the 1940s and created by a Swiss monk, known as brother James.  It was his intent to bring Christians together in prayer and worship. The service is popular in Catholic churches during the seasons of Advent and Lent.

A Taizé worship service is a quiet, simple way to pray.  This meditative candle light service will include simple chants, suntgrepeatedly, rich silence, prayer, intercessions and readings.

No practice is necessary.  No active participation is required, but welcomed.  "It is a time to rest in God, to let the words listened to and sung penetrate one's being, says Brother John of the Taizé community.
